S62 M5 Rod Main Bearings

In discussions on various forums and write ups by M5 owners, it appears that 90% of rod main bearing wear occurs at RPMs over 6000. If you want a long life for your S62 engine's rod main bearings avoid RPM blasts above 6000. If you look at the torque horsepower curves for rear wheel horsepower and torque, you really gain very little over 5600 RPM. At the dealer, this can be a $3000 job to fix. How do you know they're bad? You'll definitely hear the engine knocking when they need replacing.
