F10 M5

Focus.de (translated via the German blog Bimmertoday) the next generation M5 will not only be available with DCT but a manual transmission as well. However the manual will be meant for the US market only. Similar to the SMG and manual set-up for the E60, this arrangement is clearly meant for the old-school enthusiasts who buy M5s in the US.

The US dealers and customers have spoken loudly and with their wallets, that they want the manual transmission and BMW listened. Afterall, the M5 is an enthusiasts car and what is more thrilling to a purist than running through the gears on a winding mountain road. I'm all for new technology, but some things on a "driver's car" should never be tampered with!

The new M5 is being developed to follow in the footsteps of the new design language of the 5-Series and may include some added carbon fibre and aluminum parts to keep weight down. One thing is for sure, the //M division demands a lot from their cars at BMW.
