E39 M5 Review

Through the years, a lot of reviews have been written about the E39 M5.

In most of them, the car still gets excellent grades. This is quite amazing because it is a relatively old model and there have been a lot of advances in car technology in recent years. I guess this goes to show that the car’s technology, exterior and interior designs are timeless. And like any classic design, it will continue to receive rave reviews in the future. This is a driver's car first and foremost. It is for someone who loves to drive and appreciates driving a race car everyday wrapped in a timeless design with reliability and comfort.

The E39 M5 is a testament to the high innovation and precision standard of German engineering. Its all-steel body accounts for its structural rigidity. With the aid of computer-aided engineering, key points of the car were reinforced without increasing its weight. Also, its structural dynamics is aerodynamically designed for a comfortable and safe ride. This is one vehicle where safety and comfort come together.

Its steering and suspension system provides for a quick response so that even with additional load or speed, you can be sure that you will enjoy an incredible driving experience from this car. In fact, this is one of the areas where the E39 M5 consistently scores the highest. Various engine sizes and configurations were produced, resulting in slightly different versions of E39 M5, with some upgrades and face lifts introduced. However, its superb handling quality is evident in all its variations.

The S62 V8 engine that is found under the hood of this car is simply amazing. Although it is not anymore the fastest super sedan today, it can still outmaneuver some recent models. And with some aftermarket upgrades, it is a power to humble some of the fastest Corvettes, Lotuses, and Porsches on the track. These vehicles are bought by people that love automobiles and appreciate superior engineering.

The over all performance of the E39 M5 scores an almost perfect ten. It has excellent build quality, superb comfort, cool exterior and interior designs. It is also a very reliable car and is absolutely fun to drive. It is only in the fuel economy where it does not get a perfect grade but then again, for a car with this performance, one should expect to spend a bit more on fuel. The only other downside is the cost to maintain the M5, but it is something most owners do lovingly.

The M5 is the perfect car for someone that has become tired of their Porsche, Corvette, or Ferarri, with little sacrifice in power and handling and huge strides in comfort, reliability and a back seat. Is this the best sports sedan ever built? In my opinion and those of hundreds of road testers and car reviewers that have come before me, YES! The E39 M5 is German automotive engineering at its VERY BEST!
