Fifth Generation M5 End of Production
The fifth-generation BMW M5 ended its production with a new record high after being on the market for five successful years. BMW M GmbH said that it produced a total of 20,548 units of the 507-hp V10 powered M5 with 19,523 of those being the sedan and 1,025 being the M5 Touring (station wagon).
To put that into perspective to show you how successful the fifth generation model was, BMW said that even the production figures of the predecessor model, which was manufactured for a period of six years, were surpassed by the current BMW M5.
“The USA also proved to be the most crucial sales market for the fifth generation of the BMW M Saloon,” BMW said in a statement. “8,800 vehicles were sold in the United States. Ahead of the German market (1,647 units), Great Britain and Ireland developed the greatest demand on the European continent with 1,776 vehicles sold. Japan (1,357 units) takes fourth place among the most significant markets for the high performance sedan. The BMW M5 Touring enjoyed the greatest popularity in Germany (302 units), Great Britain and Ireland (208) and in Italy (184).”
The 2012 BMW M5 is scheduled to go on sale in the second half of 2011. It is rumored to be powered by a twin-turbo V8 making between 600-625hp.
